Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • Red and green sugar sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in the vegetable oil, beaten eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour.
  6. Chill the Dough: Divide the dough into two portions, wrap each in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm. Chilling the dough makes it easier to handle and helps the cookies hold their shape.
  7. Shape Cookies: Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out festive shapes.
  8. Decorate with Sprinkles: Place the cut-out cookies on the prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle the tops with red and green sugar sprinkles, pressing them lightly into the dough.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake to keep the cookies soft.
  10. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. Optional: Icing Drizzle (Optional): If desired, you can drizzle the cooled cookies with a simple powdered sugar icing made by mixing powdered sugar with a small amount of water or milk.
  12. Enjoy: Once the icing is set, your Christmas Sugar Cookies are ready to be enjoyed! Share them with family and friends or package them in festive boxes for gifting.

Feel free to get creative with the cookie shapes and sprinkle decorations to add a personalized touch to your Christmas treats. Happy baking
