๐Ÿ‘‰ tomatosandwich

Nothing cheaper than a tomato sandwich with salt and pepper. One of the most classic poor, southern meal. I would eat these every single day if I could! Give it a shot! Recipe is as follows:
Bread
Dukes Mayo
Tomato

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of your favorite bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
  • 1 large ripe tomato, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Duke’s Mayo (or your preferred mayonnaise)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: a handful of fresh basil leaves for added freshness

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Tomatoes:
    • Wash and slice the tomatoes into thin, even slices. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper over the tomato slices for extra flavor.
  2. Toast the Bread:
    • Toast the bread slices to your preferred level of crispiness. This step is optional, but it adds a nice crunch to your sandwich.
  3. Spread the Duke’s Mayo:
    • Take each toasted bread slice and generously spread Duke’s Mayo on one side of each slice. This creamy and tangy mayo will add a rich flavor to your sandwich.
  4. Layer the Tomatoes:
    • Place the sliced tomatoes evenly over the mayo-covered side of one of the bread slices. If you’re feeling adventurous, layer in some fresh basil leaves for a burst of herbal aroma.
  5. Season to Perfection:
    • Sprinkle a bit more salt and pepper over the tomatoes. Adjust according to your taste preferences.
  6. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Place the second slice of bread, mayo-side down, on top of the tomato layer, creating a sandwich. Press gently to help the ingredients meld together.
  7. Cut and Serve:
    • If desired, cut the sandwich in half diagonally or into quarters for easy handling. Serve immediately and enjoy the Southern Sunshine Tomato Delight!

Feel free to customize this recipe further by adding other ingredients like crispy bacon, lettuce, or a slice of your favorite cheese. The simplicity of a tomato sandwich allows for endless personalization while keeping the essence of the classic, budget-friendly Southern meal.
