Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Rolls with Sausage Gravy Frosting:
Ingredients:
For the Rolls:
- 1 pound pre-made pizza dough or crescent roll dough
- 8 breakfast sausage links
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Sausage Gravy Frosting:
- 8 ounces breakfast sausage
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cook the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage links until they are browned and cooked through. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare the eggs: In the same skillet, scramble the eggs until they are just cooked. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
- Roll out the dough: Roll out the pizza or crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Assemble the rolls: Cut the dough into 8 equal rectangles. Place a spoonful of scrambled eggs onto each rectangle, followed by a cooked sausage link and a sprinkle of shredded cheese. Roll up each rectangle tightly, enclosing the filling.
- Arrange the rolls: Place the rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with olive oil.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Prepare the sausage gravy: While the rolls are baking, cook the remaining breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens into a gravy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Frost the rolls: Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Spread the sausage gravy over the tops of the rolls like frosting.
- Serve: Serve the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast rolls warm, with extra sausage gravy on the side for dipping if desired.
