Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Rolls with Sausage Gravy Frosting:

Ingredients:

For the Rolls:

  • 1 pound pre-made pizza dough or crescent roll dough
  • 8 breakfast sausage links
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Sausage Gravy Frosting:

  • 8 ounces breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage links until they are browned and cooked through. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the eggs: In the same skillet, scramble the eggs until they are just cooked. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  4. Roll out the dough: Roll out the pizza or crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Assemble the rolls: Cut the dough into 8 equal rectangles. Place a spoonful of scrambled eggs onto each rectangle, followed by a cooked sausage link and a sprinkle of shredded cheese. Roll up each rectangle tightly, enclosing the filling.
  6. Arrange the rolls: Place the rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with olive oil.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Prepare the sausage gravy: While the rolls are baking, cook the remaining breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens into a gravy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Frost the rolls: Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Spread the sausage gravy over the tops of the rolls like frosting.
  10. Serve: Serve the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast rolls warm, with extra sausage gravy on the side for dipping if desired.
