  • Almost a whole bag of baby red potatoes (clearance price, $0.50)
  • Medium green cabbage ($1.50)
  • Few garlic cloves (about $0.25)
  • Salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Cut the bacon into bite-sized pieces.
    • Slice the beef smoked sausage into rounds.
    • Dice the onions and mince the garlic cloves.
    • Cut the baby red potatoes into small cubes.
    • Shred the medium green cabbage.
  2. Pre-Soak Potatoes:
    • Soak the cubed potatoes in water to ensure they become crispy when fried. This can be done ahead of time.
  3. Bacon Rendering:
    • In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy.
    • Once done, remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside.
  4. Sausage, Onion, and Garlic:
    • In the same skillet with bacon fat, add the sliced beef smoked sausage, diced onions, and minced garlic.
    • Cook until the onions are translucent and the sausage is browned.
    • Remove this mixture from the skillet and set it aside with the bacon.
  5. Potato Frying:
    • Add a little more oil to the skillet if needed, and fry the soaked potatoes until golden and crispy.
  6. Combine and Season:
    • Once the potatoes are crispy, reintroduce the bacon, sausage, onion, and garlic mixture back into the skillet.
    • Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
  7. Cook Until Tender:
    • Cook everything together until the cabbage is cooked down and becomes soft. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  8. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Once the cabbage is tender, your one-skillet bacon and sausage hash is ready to be served.
