👉 Italian Stromboli

Italian Stromboli Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube of Pillsbury pizza crust
  • 8 slices of deli ham
  • 10 slices of Genoa salami
  • 12 slices of sandwich pepperoni
  • 8 slices provolone cheese or mozzarella (or shredded cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 teaspoons chopped parsley
  • 3 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the back of the pizza crust tube. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Mix in the minced garlic, chopped parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Set aside.
  3. Stretch out the pizza crust on the prepared baking sheet until it’s almost the size of the sheet.
  4. Layer the deli meats on the pizza crust, starting with the ham, followed by the salami, and then the pepperoni.
  5. Layer the cheese on top of the meats.
  6. Carefully roll the Stromboli longwise, ensuring to seal the seam tightly. Seal the ends well by pinching them and molding any excess dough to the underside of the Stromboli.
  7. Score the top of the Stromboli a few times with a serrated knife to allow steam to escape while baking.
  8. Brush the top of the Stromboli with the garlic butter mixture.
  9. Bake the Stromboli in the preheated oven according to the instructions on the pizza crust tube. It should be baked for the same time as you would for a regular pizza, without par-baking the crust.
  10. Once baked, remove the Stromboli from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
  11. Slice the Stromboli into portions and serve hot. Optionally, you can serve it with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Here are some tips to enhance your Italian Stromboli recipe:

  1. Use Quality Ingredients: Opt for high-quality deli meats and cheese for the best flavor. Freshly sliced meats and cheese from a deli counter often have better flavor and texture compared to pre-packaged options.
  2. Customize Fillings: Feel free to customize the fillings based on your preferences. You can add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms for extra flavor and texture. Just ensure that any additional fillings are sliced thinly so they cook evenly.
  3. Properly Seal the Stromboli: Ensure that you tightly seal the Stromboli to prevent any fillings from leaking out during baking. Press down firmly on the seams and ends, and tuck in any excess dough to create a secure seal.
  4. Ventilation: Scoring the top of the Stromboli with a serrated knife allows steam to escape during baking, preventing the crust from becoming soggy. Be sure not to cut too deeply, as you don’t want to expose the fillings too much.
  5. Garlic Butter Mixture: The garlic butter mixture adds flavor and helps to create a golden, crispy crust. Make sure to brush it evenly over the entire surface of the Stromboli for the best results.
  6. Baking Temperature and Time: Follow the instructions on the pizza crust tube for baking temperature and time. Be careful not to overbake the Stromboli, as it can result in a dry crust and overcooked fillings.
  7. Resting Time: Allow the Stromboli to rest for a few minutes after removing it from the oven. This allows the cheese to set slightly and makes it easier to slice without the fillings spilling out.
  8. Serve with Dipping Sauce: While traditional Stromboli often includes sauce inside, serving it with marinara sauce on the side for dipping allows each person to customize their experience. It also prevents the crust from becoming soggy.
