Recipe: Cream Cheese Wontons
Ingredients:
- 1 package of wonton wrappers (approximately 50 sheets)
- 2 boxes of cream cheese (8 ounces each), softened
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 bundles of green onions, diced
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
- Oil for frying (enough for deep frying)
- Your choice of dipping sauce (e.g., sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or a homemade sauce)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and diced green onions. Mix until well combined.
- Assemble the Wontons:
- Lay out a wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of the wrapper.
- Dip your finger in the beaten egg and run it along the edges of the wonton wrapper to moisten.
- Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal. Make sure there are no air pockets.
- Optional: You can create different shapes like simple triangles or bring the corners together to make a traditional wonton shape.
- Fry the Wontons:
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the wontons in the hot oil, a few at a time, without overcrowding the pan.
- Fry the wontons until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the wontons from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the frying process with the remaining wontons.
- Serve:
- Arrange the fried wontons on a serving platter.
- Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce on the side.
Tips:
- Experiment with different dipping sauces to find your favorite combination. Sweet chili sauce, soy sauce with a dash of sesame oil, or a tangy homemade sauce are all excellent options.
- If you prefer baking instead of frying, you can brush the assembled wontons with a little oil and bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 12-15 minutes or until they are crispy and golden brown.
- These cream cheese wontons can be prepared in advance and frozen. Simply assemble the wontons, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. When ready to cook, fry or bake them straight from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time
