Ok y’all prices of food are going up everywhere so I’m all about pinching Pennie’s. This turned out better than I expected! It’s like a Salisbury steak but because all I had was ground turkey and chicken broth I made due with that I had.
Ingredients include:
One instant pack of mashed potatoes butter and herb flavor. $1 (at my local DG)
One pound of ground turkey ($3.49 at Kroger)
1 cup of Chicken broth ($1.33 at Walmart for 32oz box)
1 pack of onion soup mix (.72 cents at Walmart)
3 tbsp of flour ($2.12 for a 2 pound bag at Walmart)
.
.
.
.
I had everything already on hand so these prices are local prices in my hometown* Kentucky
You could make this and put it on a bed of rice if you don’t have mashed potatoes.
Bon appetite
Turkey Salisbury Steak with Herb Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
- 1 instant pack of mashed potatoes, butter and herb flavor
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 pack onion soup mix
- 3 tbsp flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Cooked rice (for serving)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Follow the instructions on the instant mashed potato pack to prepare the butter and herb flavored mashed potatoes. Set aside and keep warm.
- Make the Turkey Salisbury Steak Patties:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey with half of the onion soup mix. Season with salt and pepper according to taste.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties.
- Cook the Turkey Patties:
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the turkey patties in the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through.
- Prepare the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, sprinkle the flour over the drippings from the turkey patties. Stir to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually pour in the chicken broth while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Add the remaining half of the onion soup mix to the gravy. Continue to cook and stir until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
- Serve:
- Place a generous scoop of the herb mashed potatoes on each plate.
- Top the mashed potatoes with a turkey Salisbury steak patty.
- Pour the gravy over the turkey patties.
- Optionally, serve with cooked rice instead of mashed potatoes.
Note: Feel free to customize this recipe by adding sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions to the gravy for extra flavor. Enjoy your budget-friendly and delicious Turkey Salisbury Steak with Herb Mashed Potatoes!
