From Dawnโ€™s Kitchen-Enjoy!

  1. In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it’s browned and no longer pink. If you’re using a plant-based alternative, follow the package instructions to cook it until it’s heated through.
  2. Drain any excess fat from the skillet if necessary.
  3. Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked beef. Sautรฉ for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat to medium-low, and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
  5. While the Sloppy Joe filling is simmering, split the hamburger buns and lightly toast them with a little butter or oil in a separate pan until they’re golden brown. You can also toast them in the oven under the broiler.
  6. Once the Sloppy Joe filling is thickened to your liking, remove it from heat.
  7. To assemble the sandwiches, place a slice of Provolone cheese on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  8. Spoon a generous portion of the Sloppy Joe filling onto the cheese-covered bun.
  9. Top each sandwich with the other half of the toasted bun.
  10. Serve your Smokey Sloppy Joe and Provolone sandwiches immediately while they’re hot. You can also serve them with pickles, coleslaw, or a side of potato chips for a complete meal.
