Ham and Cheese Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole


  • 1 ham steak (about 1 lb), diced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or your preferred type)
  • 2 slices American cheese, torn into pieces
  • 4 cups frozen tater tots, thawed and broken into smaller pieces
  • 9 large eggs
  • 1 cup half and half
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a casserole dish and set it aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced ham and chopped onion. Spread this mixture evenly in the buttered casserole dish.
  3. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the ham and onion mixture. Tear the American cheese slices into smaller pieces and distribute them evenly over the grated cheese layer.
  4. Spread the broken tater tots evenly over the cheese layer.
  5. In another mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and half and half until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the ham, onions, cheese, and tater tots in the casserole dish.
  7. Tear another slice of cheese into pieces and sprinkle them over the top of the casserole.
  8. Season the top of the casserole with additional pepper if desired.
  9. Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.
  10. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
