Homemade Sloppy Joe Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cups ketchup
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- Hamburger buns, for serving
Instructions:
- Prep the Veggies: Begin by dicing the green pepper and onion.
- Brown the Meat: In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once the meat is almost fully cooked, add the diced green pepper and onion to the skillet. Continue cooking until the vegetables are softened and the meat is fully browned.
- Drain Excess Fat: If there is excess fat in the skillet after browning the meat, carefully drain it off.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until well combined.
- Add the Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the browned meat and vegetables in the skillet. Stir to coat the meat and vegetables evenly with the sauce.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve: Once the sloppy joe mixture is heated through and flavorful, spoon it onto hamburger buns to serve. You can toast the buns beforehand if desired.
- Enjoy: Serve your homemade sloppy joes hot and enjoy the delicious, savory-sweet flavors!
- Optional Additions: Feel free to customize your sloppy joes by adding extra toppings such as shredded cheese, sliced pickles, or diced onions for extra crunch and flavor.
