Italian Style Beef and Cabbage Skillet

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) Italian style diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 cup rice

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté until onions are translucent and garlic is fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, garlic pepper, Italian seasoning, and any other desired seasonings. Mix well to incorporate flavors.
  4. Add chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir to combine with the beef mixture.
  5. Pour in the can of Italian style diced tomatoes, including the juice. If using rice, add it at this point.
  6. If needed, add a little water to the skillet to ensure there’s enough liquid for the cabbage and rice to cook. Stir to combine all ingredients.
  7. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender. If using rice, cook until the rice is fully cooked and absorbed the liquid.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.
  9. Once everything is cooked through and tender, remove the skillet from heat.
  10. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
