Italian Style Beef and Cabbage Skillet
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 chopped onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 can (14.5 oz) Italian style diced tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 cup rice
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté until onions are translucent and garlic is fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, garlic pepper, Italian seasoning, and any other desired seasonings. Mix well to incorporate flavors.
- Add chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir to combine with the beef mixture.
- Pour in the can of Italian style diced tomatoes, including the juice. If using rice, add it at this point.
- If needed, add a little water to the skillet to ensure there’s enough liquid for the cabbage and rice to cook. Stir to combine all ingredients.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender. If using rice, cook until the rice is fully cooked and absorbed the liquid.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.
- Once everything is cooked through and tender, remove the skillet from heat.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
