Texas toast

1 box of cheesy Texas toast (about $3 for 8 pieces) bake according to the box but only about 3-4 minutes. Just enough to warm it. 1 box of Steak-ums(about $5) fried and thoroughly drained of grease. Add a bit of garlic powder, onion powder…whatever you like. Add the Steak-ums to the Texas toast, slices of any cheese you like ( I had American in the fridge) and finish baking until your cheese is bubbly. Use a spatula to flip one piece in the other to make a FILLING sandwich! My hubby LOVES these and they are quick and cheap! Total for 4 sandwiches was about $8😉 not to mention…this is totally versatile! Change it up as it suits you

Cheesy Steak-um Texas Toast Sandwiches

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of cheesy Texas toast (8 pieces)
  • 1 box of Steak-um (approximately 5-6 slices per sandwich)
  • Slices of your preferred cheese (American, cheddar, etc.)
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Optional: Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cheesy Texas toast box.
  2. Prepare Texas Toast: Place the cheesy Texas toast on a baking sheet and bake for 3-4 minutes, or until warmed. This step is to slightly toast the bread, so it’s not fully cooked.
  3. Cook Steak-um: While the Texas toast is warming, cook the Steak-um in a skillet over medium heat. Season it with garlic powder, onion powder, and any additional spices you prefer. Ensure the Steak-um is thoroughly cooked and drain excess grease.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches: Lay out the warmed Texas toast on the baking sheet. Place a generous portion of the cooked Steak-um on each piece of toast. Add slices of your preferred cheese on top of the Steak-um.
  5. Finish Baking: Place the baking sheet back in the oven and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly. This should take a few more minutes, following the instructions on the Texas toast box.
  6. Create the Filling Sandwich: Once the cheese is melted, carefully use a spatula to flip one piece of Texas toast onto the other, creating a filling sandwich.
  7. Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two. Serve them hot, and enjoy the gooey, flavorful goodness!

Variations: Feel free to customize these sandwiches to your liking! You can add toppings like sautéed mushrooms, onions, or bell peppers. Experiment with different cheese varieties or add condiments such as mayonnaise, ketchup, or hot sauce. The recipe is versatile, so get creative and make it your own!
