👉 uncrustables

Just under $10 for over 40 uncrustables (I actually made 44. A few were eaten in production).
Bread was $1.33, 4 loaves.
1 jar of peanut butter $1.59
1 large jar of grape jelly $2.89
I’ll use the crusts for French toast muffins

Homemade Uncrustables:

Ingredients:

  • 4 loaves of bread ($1.33)
  • 1 jar of peanut butter ($1.59)
  • 1 large jar of grape jelly ($2.89)

Instructions:

  1. Lay out a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper on a clean surface.
  2. Take two slices of bread and spread peanut butter on one side of each slice.
  3. Spread grape jelly on one of the slices.
  4. Press the two slices together, peanut butter and jelly sides facing each other, to form a sandwich.
  5. Use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut the sandwiches into circular shapes, creating Uncrustables.
  6. Repeat the process until you’ve used up all the bread, peanut butter, and jelly.

French Toast Muffins with Leftover Crusts:

  2. Cut the leftover bread crusts into small cubes or tear them into bite-sized pieces.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  4. Grease a muffin tin with butter or cooking spray.
  5. Place the bread crusts into each muffin cup.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the crusts, making sure each piece is coated.
  7. Allow the bread to soak for a few minutes to absorb the liquid.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the French toast muffins are golden brown and set.

Making homemade Uncrustables is a simple and cost-effective way to enjoy this popular snack. Here are some tips to help you achieve the best results:

  1. Use Fresh Bread:
    • Choose fresh and soft bread to make it easier to seal the edges of your Uncrustables. Stale bread may not seal as well.
  2. Thinly Spread Peanut Butter and Jelly:
    • Spread a thin, even layer of peanut butter and jelly on the bread. This will help ensure that the edges seal properly and prevent the filling from oozing out.
  3. Leave a Border:
    • Leave a small border around the edges of the bread without any peanut butter or jelly. This helps in sealing the edges more effectively.
  4. Use a Round Cutter:
    • Use a round cookie cutter, a glass, or a dedicated Uncrustables cutter for consistent and neat shapes. Press firmly to cut through the bread layers.
  5. Press Edges Well:
    • After filling and cutting, press down the edges of the sandwiches firmly to seal them. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for a secure seal.
  6. Freeze Quickly:
    • Place the Uncrustables on a tray and freeze them for at least 30 minutes before transferring to a storage bag. This prevents them from sticking together.
  7. Separate with Parchment Paper:
    • When storing in the freezer, place parchment paper between layers of Uncrustables to prevent them from sticking together.
  8. Thaw Before Eating:
    • If you plan to pack them for lunch or a snack, let the Uncrustables thaw for a bit before consuming. This makes them easier to eat and prevents the filling from being too hard.
  9. Experiment with Fillings:
    • Get creative with your fillings. Consider using almond butter, hazelnut spread, or different fruit jams to add variety to your homemade Uncrustables.
  10. Repurpose Crusts:
    • Don’t waste the leftover crusts. Use them for other recipes, like the French toast muffins mentioned earlier, or turn them into breadcrumbs for future use.
  11. Batch Preparation:
    • Make a large batch at once to save time. Store the extras in the freezer for a convenient and quick snack option.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to make homemade Uncrustables that are not only budget-friendly but also delicious and convenient
