Cheesy Dorito Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 cans (10.75 oz each) cheddar cheese soup
  • 2 cans (10.75 oz each) cream of chicken soup
  • 2 cans (12 oz each) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (4 oz) minced green chilis
  • 1 Family size bag of nacho Doritos
  • Shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • Optional: diced onions, sliced jalapeños for extra flavor
  • Sour cream and salsa for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef and ground turkey over medium heat until browned. If you’re using onions and jalapeños, add them to the skillet while cooking the meat.
  3. Drain any excess grease from the meat mixture.
  4. Add the cheddar cheese soup, cream of chicken soup, evaporated milk, and minced green chilis to the skillet with the cooked meat. Stir well to combine. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a layer of nacho Doritos on the bottom.
  6. Spoon half of the meat mixture evenly over the layer of Doritos.
  7. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheese over the meat mixture layer.
  8. Repeat the layers: another layer of Doritos, the remaining meat mixture, and another layer of shredded cheese.
  9. Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
  11. Serve the cheesy Dorito casserole hot, topped with dollops of sour cream and salsa if desired.

Here are some tips to make your Cheesy Dorito Casserole even better:

Season the Meat: Add your favorite seasonings to the ground beef and turkey as they cook for added flavor. Garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and chili powder are all great options.

Mix up the Cheese: Experiment with different types of shredded cheese for added flavor. Pepper jack, Monterey Jack, or a blend of cheeses can enhance the cheesiness of your casserole.

Layering Technique: Ensure even distribution of ingredients by layering the Doritos, meat mixture, and cheese evenly. This will help every bite to be packed with deliciousness.

Add Fresh Ingredients: Consider adding fresh ingredients like diced tomatoes, bell peppers, or cilantro between the layers for added freshness and texture.

Customize the Heat: Adjust the spiciness of the casserole by controlling the amount of minced green chilis, jalapeños, or salsa you use. For a milder version, you can reduce or omit these ingredients altogether.

Prevent Sogginess: To prevent the Doritos from becoming too soggy, you can briefly toast them in the oven before layering them in the casserole dish. This will help them maintain their crunchiness even after baking.

Let it Rest: Allow the casserole to rest for a few minutes after removing it from the oven. This will help the flavors to meld together and make it easier to slice and serve.

Garnish Creatively: Get creative with your toppings! Aside from sour cream and salsa, you can also add sliced avocado, chopped green onions, or a drizzle of hot sauce for an extra kick.

By following these tips, you can take your Cheesy Dorito Casserole to the next level and make it even more irresistible for your family and guests!
